FALL & SPRING INTERNSHIPS
Family Literacy Curriculum Development Intern, flexible schedule, 8 hours/week
RFS Stone Mountain Community Center and telecommuting
The Curriculum Development Intern is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum materials for the Family Literacy Program. The intern will organize existing resources and find new material to expand the Family Literacy library. This project will include developing leveled curriculum that Family Literacy volunteers can use in lessons with their families. Requires: strong organizational skill, cultural sensitivity, applicants with experience in curriculum development, ESL/ Applied Linguistics, or adult education are preferred.
After-school Intern, 2-4 days/week (Mon-Thu), 2-6pm
RFS Stone Mountain Youth Center
Intern is responsible for assisting the Refugee Youth Program staff in managing the After-school Program, One-to-One Program and New Arrivals Program. Responsibilities include curriculum development, volunteer management, youth attendance among other tasks. This position includes administrative tasks as well as classroom leadership roles when needed. Requires: cultural sensitivity, organizational skills, and an interest in youth development or teaching is a plus.
New Arrival Classroom Intern, 2-4 days/week (Mon-Thu), 2-6pm
RFS Stone Mountain Youth Center
The New Arrivals Program Intern is responsible for assisting the Refugee Youth Program staff and Classroom Supervisors in managing the New Arrivals Program. In a classroom setting, interns work directly with new arrival refugee youth (those who have been in the U.S. less than 2 years). Interns will be assigned to a New Arrival Classroom and aid the Classroom Supervisor in after-school enrichment activities (tutoring, basic social lessons, and English skills). Interns will also administer English language acquisition tests to students and may also assist in New Arrival Afterschool classrooms. Requires: organizational skills, experience with youth and teaching a plus.
Youth Computer Class Intern, Fall and Spring semesters, 2-4 days/week (Mon-Thu), 2-6pm
RFS Stone Mountain Youth Center
The Computer Class Intern is responsible for managing the After-school Program’s Computer Lab that consists of 6 computers with online capabilities, educational/English Language Learner software, and basic computer programs. Afterschool classes will rotate in and out of the Computer Lab, spending one hour/week in the lab. The Computer Class Intern will be responsible for creating and implementing computer curriculum, including but not limited to basic computer skills training as well as guiding students through educational computer games and software. Requires: strong computer skills; teaching skills a plus.
