A refugee child attends the eight-week RFS
Summer Camp. In a culturally diverse, accepting and
supportive environment, children are involved in: academics,
dance, drama, gardening, journalism, music, arts, nutrition,
sports, service learning, talent shows, field days and more.
(Camp is free of charge to refugee families, like all of our
services.)

For three weeks, fifty-two refugee children
go on Summer Camp field trips and those children who live to far
away to walk to Camp get a ride, when a bus driver is hired for
that time. Not only does Summer Camp keep kids off the street,
it takes them swimming, skating and to the High Museum for
cultural adventures.

A young woman from the refugee community is
hired to coordinate the field trips, meals and activities of the
four RFS Summer Camp classes. This will be her first paid job,
after “growing up” in the RFS Youth Program and volunteering as
a junior counselor for the past two years.

A young adult from the refugee community is
hired to teach thirteen refugee children in the RFS After School
Program for one month in the fall, supporting the transition
from Summer Camp to school and serving as role model in
leadership and community engagement.

Five refugee children receive the
vision/hearing screenings that ensure they are ready to go back
to school. (Did you know that fifty percent or more of at risk
children have vision problems that interfere with their academic
work?) |

summer camp, as well as children's books, CD's, videos and other
educational supplies. If you can help, please let us know at contribute@refugeefamilyservices.org.
Due
to some significant clothing donations that we have received recently,
we currently do not have capacity to store or process additional
clothing donations.
